Critics Consensus

This taut and snappy French prison break thriller may be suspiciously implausible, but is held together by two fine central performances.

Yusufpasha P I was pleasantly surprised by this movie.Of course the whole idea of the plot is not very believable, an ordinary man trying to get his ordinary wife to escape from prison. That is the downpoint of the film. However, through the great performances by both actors Vincent Lindon and Diane Kruger, and the wonderful chemistry between them, you actually care for them, and understand the psychological motivation of the husband. Add to that the perfectly paced development of the story, and you end up with a solid, entertaining thriller with real emotions. In my opinion, you forget the unrealistic aspect of a film when the performance(s) of the actor(s) are deep and the emotions strong. So for me, even though this film provides nothing new, it is a brilliantly executed thriller. Final Verdict: Solid THRILLER with good ACTING Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/20/24 Full Review Audience Member The greatest 01 hour: and 36 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review richard i Attention-holding variation on the prison break-out movie genre, which, thanks to it not being based on a true story, leaves you pretty uncertain as to how it's all going to turn out, a decent feat for a thriller, and while it stacks up the clichés, it also has a freshness which is endearing, though I'm still not sure how lumpy-faced Lindon landed the goddess-like Kruger, but that's a mystery no-one can solve. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Such a lovely piece. This shows how far youd get all for the sake of love and devotion. A classic thriller. Unlike the remake, the character build up is better and the wife is prettier. LOL. The only flaw in the film was how did the police picked up the trail so fast, its not logical. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member This is one film I feel the Hollywood version may have been slightly better at, all the same it is easy to watch, but lacking in the twists and turns that I thought may appear. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Didn't finish on plane. Maybe someday. Better the moronic Hollywood version.
