The Great Escape begins tomorrow! CMU presents three full-day CMU + TGE strands this year – plus TGE Elevate sessions on Saturdays for early-career talent and three keynote addresses in Conversations.

MUSIC+EDUCATION Wednesday, with the Pathways Into Music Foundation, will analyze the broader music-making community in 2022 and ask how music education and the music industry can better connect and support the large number of hobby and DIY artists who stream music today. We’ll identify the key knowledge and information that artists in the do-it-yourself phase need access to – and how to get it to them. And we’ll look at the role of music funders and launch an all-new Pathways Into Music research series mapping music education.

MUSIC+DATA On Thursday, presented in association with the BPI, we’ll see the theme output from the Setlist as a track, then follow that track through its data journey, identifying the data needed to play music and pay artists. Plus, we’ll see how artists, labels, managers, and promoters use fan data to generate licenses, sell tickets, and build a relationship with fans. And we’ll tell you everything you need to know about blockchain, NFTs, the metaverse, and Web3.

MUSIC+VIDEO Friday, presented in association with the BPI, will identify all the key trends and talking points in the timing market. We will talk about redemptions. We’ll talk about music licensing when influencers and brands post online. And we’ll look at all the ways the music industry is now using video content to build an audience, stand out from the crowd, and monetize the relationship with fans. Additionally, we will shed light on the metaverse and the opportunities and challenges it presents for the music industry.

TGE HIGH SESSIONS Saturday, supported by Arts Council England, is a day of panels and seminars for those early in their music career, providing a user-friendly guide to how artists build a business around their music and business partners with whom they work along the way. Plus, choose from five CMU:DIY Quick Seminars and participate in a live recording of CMU’s podcast roster.

And then there are the three keynote speeches in the conversations – with the “Shape Of You” legal team on Thursday at 12:45 p.m.; Tom Gray, MP Kevin Brennan and Naomi Pohl Thursday at 4:30 p.m.; and music PR legend Barbara Charone on Fridays at 12:45 p.m.
