Singer Sir Elton John is furious with the way the music industry has been handled after Brexit by the UK government.
During a conversation with the Observer, the 74-year-old singer said he was furious at the lack of arrangements for parts of the entertainment industry that depend on travel within the European Union.
“I am so angry. I am furious with what the government did when Brexit happened,” he said, referring to the new rules that were put in place at the start of this year which did not do not guarantee visa-free travel for the musicians of the bloc, raising concerns that touring artists will incur high fees in some of the countries they visit.
“They have nothing planned for the entertainment sector, and not just for musicians, actors and directors, but for the teams, the dancers, the people who make their living by going to Europe,” he said. he declares.
“People like me can afford to go to Europe because we can get people to fill out forms and get visas, but what drives me crazy is that the entertainment business brings in £ 111 billion. sterling per year to this country and we have just been thrown away, âhe added.
âThey are Philistines. The government are philistines. We have become used to governments – especially the UK government – telling us lies every day, and I don’t feel okay with that, âhe continued.
âLook what they’ve done with the NHS. After everything these people (staff) have done during Covid, they are giving them a 1% raise. I find that extraordinary. I can’t live with this. It makes me so angry, âJohn said.
