In an interview with Spain metallic circus televisionancient DELAIN singer Charlotte Wessels She was asked what she thought of the band recently returning with a new lineup. Last month, DELAIN released a single, “The Quest and the Curse”with keyboardist, founder and principal songwriter Martijn Westerholt alongside the new singer Diana Leaoriginal guitarist Ronald Landa and original drummer Zander Zoermore bassist Ludovic Cioffi. Charlotte said: “Honestly, I try not to get too committed to it. I’ve seen some positive responses to it, which I think is a good thing. But I try to keep some distance and just focusing on what I’m doing rather than checking that out, because I still don’t feel like that will make me happier on its own.”
In February 2021, Westerholt announced the dissolution of DELAINthe previous programming of. At the time, he explained: “For about a year now, the collaboration within the group has ceased to work as well as it once did. Some of us were no longer happy with the current roles in the band. We all tried very hard. finding a solution for over a year, but unfortunately we couldn’t find one. Therefore, we will all go our own way and pursue our own efforts.
“I am very sad that our cooperation has come to an end, but at the same time, I am very grateful for all the years we have been able to work together. Together we have traveled the world, shared ups and downs, and had many successes. moments that pushed us to learn and grow. We all enjoyed meeting our fans and making new friends all over the world.
At the time, Wessel said of his departure: “I know you might be wondering about the ‘why’ in all of this. I completely understand and respect that. Simply put, it’s the sad conclusion of over a year trying to find solutions to build -up grievances. Part of me feels like I’m letting you all down, I’d like you to know that this decision was not taken lightly and I apologize to from those of you who had high hopes of seeing us all live together on stage again after lockdown. Until recently I thought this might still be in the cards for us too.
New DELAIN lineup made their official live debut on August 27 at Riverside festival in Aarburg, Switzerland.
Horrible answered some questions submitted by fans via the group Youtube channel, including how she joined the longtime Dutch metal band. She said: “It’s very simple, actually. I knew they were looking for a singer, so I just left a comment about their instagram page. So a few days later I got an email from Martin, and we talked a bit about how I could audition and he sent me some material that I could sing on. And the rest is history.”
When asked how she decided to sing in a metal band, the 32-year-old Diana said, “Well, I’ve always wanted to sing in a metal band. It was really my desire to do that. Actually, I sang in a few rock bands, but it wasn’t really to heavy music, which I was at the time. It was really hard to find the right people to form a band with and also to get along and stuff. But I always wanted to be in a metal band. Still.
Horrible also spoke a bit about her background saying, “I was born in Romania, in a town called Alba Iulia. It’s in the middle of Transylvania. And then I moved to Italy when I was 15, and I lived in Italy for, I think, 10 years or something. And then I moved to Canada, to Ottawa, and lived there for five years. And then I came back to Italy. And now I currently live in Italy, near Turin, so in the north.
Wessel will release his second full length solo album, “Tales from Six Feet Under, Vol II”October 7 via Napalm discs. The LP is described in a press release as an “immersive piece of rock, pop, metal and beyond”. Along with its own high-profile creative impact, the album also features delicate guitar work from Charlotteis ex-DELAIN group mate Timo Somer.
