My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James recorded a cover of Steve Miller Band’s “Seasons”. The track is part of Bloomington, Indiana’s 25th Anniversary Singles Collection, Secretly Canadian, dubbed SC25, for the benefit of the Bloomington humanitarian organization and a homeless shelter New hope for families.

James’ cover of “Seasons” arrived alongside the a capella rendition of singer Madison McFerrin’s song from Here We Go Magic. “Over the ocean.” James and McFerrin covers follow previous ones SC25 contributions from Beach Fossils, Green-House, NNAMDÏ, Porridge Radio, Skullcrusher and Stella Donnelly.

Steve Miller Band’s “Seasons” appears on the band’s 1969 album, Brave New World, and is one of Secretly Candian co-founder Chris Swanson’s favorite songs. Jim James spoke of the journey to his cover of Steve Miller Band’s “Seasons” in a statement:

Chris Swanson and I started in the music business around the same time and have always appreciated his friendship and support. It was amazing watching all the wonderful music Secretly helped bring to this world… so when he asked me to cover one of his favorite songs from my childhood in honor of Secretly’s 25th birthday, I was excited to do it, and even more excited once I got to know and love the song, which I had never heard before… but which is now also one of my all-time favorites.
