Machine Gun Kelly first quit the guitar after her debut

Machine Gun Kelly recently remembered when he quit playing guitar shortly after picking up the instrument for the first time. He’d gotten an ax after attending the Warped Tour in his youth, with the past rock festival apparently inspiring his first attempt at six strings.

The 31-year-old musician, who recently hit the charts from hip-hop to pop-punk, shared the memory in a tweet celebrating his first birthday. Tickets for My Fall.

The 2020 effort, powered by blink-182’s Travis Barker, introduced the rock sound of MGK and is his most successful to date. Of course, it’s a good thing that the artist has finally returned to the guitar, isn’t it?

“I bought a guitar after my first distorted tour at age 11”, Kelly, real name Colson Baker, recalled Saturday (Sept. 25).

But the musician added: “I stopped playing because I didn’t believe in myself.”

Alas, he continued, “it took me this long to finally listen to my gut, so thanks for listening to me. Happy birthday #TicketsToMyDownfall”

This week, Machine Gun Kelly appeared in music news for more than just musicality as he engaged in a verbal feud with Slipknot and masked metal band front man Corey Taylor. At Riot Fest 2021, where both acts occurred, Kelly reportedly criticized Slipknot on stage, later claiming Taylor was “bitter” over a thwarted collaboration between him and the rocker.

Taylor fired back, calling MGK childish and sharing screenshots indicating he ultimately turned down the collaboration. The Slipknot singer had apparently singled out Kelly in a interview earlier this year, but without naming it.
