Music Industry Leaders to Discuss Influence of EDI in Special Edition Series of Events

On September 27, the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music returns with LA rings now in a special edition integration with the Still waiting Loudspeaker series. This fall, participate in a series of provocative conversations with music industry professionals, artists and special guests representing the rich diversity of Los Angeles’ music ecosystem offering unique perspectives on the current state of the world. equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in the music industry.

Co-moderated by Inaugural Dean of the Herb Alpert School of Music Eileen Strempel and Associate Dean for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (and winner of multiple Grammy Awards) Arturo O’Farrill, this series of weekly conversations will focus on the history, issues and ongoing struggles that continue to animate the stark contrast between the main artists in the music industry – often black artists, women artists and women. ‘other artists of color – compared to the industry executive and professional ranks. This “representation gap” inspired conversations and activism in the wake of George Floyd’s murder, but what has happened since? Inspirational and impactful examples of change that weave music, activism and social justice are explored, along with their genesis, process, and possibilities for modification and replication.
