Prime Minister Narendra Modi pays tribute to Lata Mangeshkar on her birthday


Marking the birth anniversary of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tribute to the iconic singer.

To honor Lata Mangeshkar’s contribution to the Indian music industry and her efforts to bring laurels to the nation, the Prime Minister announced the name of a chowk in Ayodhya after her on Wednesday.

Taking to Twitter, he posted, “Remembering Lata Didi on her birthday. There are so many things I remember…the countless interactions she poured so much affection into. I am glad that today a Chowk in Ayodhya is named after her.It is a fitting tribute to one of India’s greatest icons.

Alongside the Prime Minister, several other eminent personalities also paid tribute to the singing maestro. Many artists have created his paintings to honor his birthday.

Born in 1929, Lata Mangeshkar is known for her miraculous voice which has added charm to hundreds of songs and remains a favorite of many to this day. She reigned over reading singing for decades. Popularly known as the “Nightingale of India”, Lata Mangeshkar passed away in February this year.

She is one of the most versatile singers in the Indian film industry. She was born to classical singer Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar and Shevanti in Indore on September 28, 1929. Her father’s profession had a huge impact on Lata Mangeshkar who started learning music from him at a very young age. Not only Lata, but her siblings Meena, Asha, Usha and Hridaynath also learned the art of singing from their father and are famous personalities in the music industry.

As she continued to yield major hit songs in the Bollywood industry, she became the preferred choice of songwriters and directors. She has sung around 5,000 songs in over a thousand Hindi films and 36 regional films. His choice of songs and his performance with finesse took the music industry to another level. There would be practically no actress at that time for whom Lata Mangeshkar did not sing. Lata Mangeshkar’s songs have featured a wide range of actresses from different eras, be it Madhubala or Priyanka Chopra. She also sang gazals and some classical songs. Even after her passing, Lata Mangeshkar has a lasting impact on the Indian Bollywood industry and she remains eternal with her songs.
