Representing South Africa, Musida, 26 – who hails from Ha-Masia in Venda in Limpopo – has been one of the favorites throughout the competition. Her victory in the prestigious Beauty With a Purpose (BWAP) segment of the pageant propelled her into the top 40 Miss World semi-finalists.
Musida’s victory at BWAP was based on his advocacy campaign focused on eliminating the stigma associated with mental illness. The Miss World judges were impressed with the weekly IGTV Live sessions – Mindful Mondays – she hosted with mental health experts. These have shone the spotlight on “taboo” subjects such as depression and suicide. Musida also wrote a children’s book, Shudu Finds Her Magic, about how she overcame bullying as a child.
The scintillating Miss World event was hosted by TV personality Peter Andre and one of Latin America’s top actors and singers, Fernando Allende.
Musida said: “I am absolutely delighted to have succeeded in the competition so far. It really is a dream come true and I am very grateful to have had this wonderful opportunity. Congratulations to the new Miss World 2021 Karolina Bielawska and all the other contestants who made this trip so special. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity and for everyone who has supported and lifted me up.

Miss South Africa Organization CEO Stephanie Weil and Miss South Africa Creative Director Werner Wessels were in Puerto Rico to support Musida.
Weil said, “Although Shudu didn’t reach the top 12, she definitely shone throughout the competition and made us South Africans very proud!”
On the final stage, Shudu looked stunning in the stunning evening gown designed for her by Cape Town designer Warrick Gautier.
He said, “Shudu’s shimmering golden dress was inspired by Shudu’s unique beauty that radiates from within like an African sunrise at the start of a magical new day. It is a strong, modern, powerful and glamorous dress, just like Shudu.
