Legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk recently hosted a performance by the Pro Skater cover band before taking the stage and performing a few songs from the soundtracks. The events took place last Saturday at Signature Brew in London, UK. “I had to join the party,” Hawk said.
The group in question is aptly known as The 900, a reference to the nearly three-turn aerial spin famous by Hawk. The 900 proudly market themselves as “the first and only Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater cover band in the UK”. The band is currently on tour performing “every banger from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater to American Wasteland”.
“Thank you for having such respect,” Hawk said onstage. “It’s really been my greatest honor to make these games last this long and hey, we keep going, right? I had to join the party! The 900 later said on Twitter that “we legitimately played two songs with Tony Hawk, what the fuck?”
“I’m not going to lie, when we booked a Tony Hawk soundtrack cover band we didn’t expect the real Tony Hawk to show up in London and take Goldfinger back with them,” Signature Brew noticed on the same social media platform. “Sorry, what just happened? The brewery aims to unite people “through the power of amazing beer, great music and unforgettable experiences,” which seems fair given the circumstances.
Hawk was apparently scheduled to appear at the London Palladium for An Evening with Tony Hawk. When the show was canceled, Hawk went to Signature Brew.
“Let’s talk about last night,” The 900 posted on Facebook. “Tony Hawk himself came to our show at Signature Brew and blew the roof off! Words can’t express how grateful we are to Tony for not only watching our show, but also nailing two iconic songs!
Hawk has been known to show up in seemingly random places. People are often surprised to learn that they are actually talking to the skater, sometimes even noticing that they look alike.
