When he was eight years old, Kid LAROI decided he wanted to be a musician – but he says it was just a coincidence that, years before he was born, his parents were in the music business too⦠sort of.
âMy dad was trying to be a singer, I guess, and my mom was a model in Sydney,â the Australian rapper said of his parents. âMy dad had some minor success in the UK, but I guess, you know, things just didn’t work out. He came back to Australia, they met and they started as a small business together.
The “Stay” singer continues, “They actually found a [music] act and signed an act with Sony Australia â- the label that LAROI is currently signed with, in this case. But, he notes, “When they broke up they kind of left all the music behind because they sort of did it together.”
And since LAROI was only three years old when his parents separated, he wasn’t really aware of their background in the music business, and his parents no longer had any connection that would help him either. Still, the “Without You” singer thinks it’s pretty crazy that he still ended up in the business and succeeded where his parents had failed.
âThey had a good little race with everything they did, but I guess they didn’t even get the full benefit of it,â he explains. âAnd a lot of the things that I’m doing now are a big first for them, like, they’re still learning that stuff. It’s just funny how it goes around in circles! “
The Kid LAROI is currently working on their debut album and will launch their first headlining tour in 2022.
